Summary of Holidays and PA Days:

Electronic devices

Devices are not to be used during school hours unless given permission and directly supervised by a teacher, for education purposes only. Devices should be turned off and kept in the locker, unless otherwise instructed by a teacher. Should you wish to contact your child during the teaching day, please call the school at 905-655-8959 and have them paged.

Attitude in the Classroom

It is important that each and every member of our classroom feels valued and respected. As such, students are expected to come to school with a positive attitude so that they may be successful. Students should remember to be considerate when addressing peers and teachers, as careless words can be very hurtful. Listening attentively and recognizing the contributions of others are both excellent ways of giving respect to those around us. Respect is something that must be earned.

Keeping Organized

As an intermediate student, there is a great importance in keeping organized. Students will have many teachers, classrooms, and due dates to keep track of. Students need to make use of their agenda to organize dates and reminder. Every intermediate teacher has a homework board and calendar in their room. Students should take 5 minutes at the end of each class to write homework and important dates in their agenda.

Additionally, class updates are done through the class and school websites, through Google Classroom, as well as through "Remind". Please read, sign and return the "Remind" communication form if you wish to participate.

The intermediate division now has lockers. It is a privilege to use these lockers and therefore students are expected to care for their locker. Students in grade 7 share a locker with a classmate while grade 8 students receive their own. Students require a sturdy lock (combination is best) and should keep their code to themselves and their teachers for security reasons. Students should ensure they bring all necessary materials to class as locker visits will not be permitted in between classes.

Chromebooks

All Intermediate students will have a Chromebook. Here is some information regarding the proper use of their Chromebooks:

  • Students are responsible for their Chromebook

  • Chromebooks should be brought to each class (except for Phys. ed. and DPA, or unless otherwise told by a teacher)

  • After entering a class, students should wait for their teacher to instruct them to open their Chromebook and should otherwise keep it closed

  • Students are to use their Chromebooks appropriately during class time. Failure to do so will result in the loss of the privileged of using it

  • Students must keep their charging cords at home and plug their Chromebook in each night to charge

  • Students may add stickers to decorate their Chromebooks, but they may not remove the "DDSB" sticker

  • If the Chromebook is not working properly or is broken, notify a teacher

Attitude is
          everything!
Homework and Absences

Homework gives each student the opportunity to develop important skills, knowledge, and attitudes. Guidelines suggest between 30 to 90 minutes each evening for grades 7 & 8 students. The times vary between individuals and at various times in the school year. Homework may consist of finishing incomplete work for the school day, assignments, projects, studying for tests/quizzes, etc. Even if no homework has been assigned, student should make a habit of taking the time each evening to organize and review their notes from class, review the agenda and read in both languages (15-20 minutes). Setting up a specific homework space and routine is helpful to develop good study habits. It is expected that students come to class with their work complete.

If students have homework but have extracurricular events, it is their responsibility to find a way of completing their work; whether it be attending homework club or speaking to their teacher ahead of time.

In the intermediate division, it is the student's responsibility for any missed instructions and assignments. They should ask to borrow notes and locates any handout they've missed. They should also take initiative and seek teacher assistance to ensure they are on track with course material. When possible, please try to inform teachers of planned absences. Most assignments and course content is posted to Google Classroom, so students should check online if they are absent. They can also privately message their teachers if they have a question.
